I cooked my first laksam a.k.a laksa kelantan last nite and it was so delicious!!! (ha ha ha)
Just look at these pics...
Ok, ok…. I know some may say that the recipe is as easy as ABC (to those chefs and cook masters out there!)…. But to me this is the biggest accomplishment ever in my endless quest to master Kelantanese dishes. It’s a triumph that should be celebrated…. Yeee haaaa!!!!
Yeah, the happiest person on earth this morning, I guess, was Nik (I assumed, as he said my laksam was good!) because from today onwards, 16th November 2005, we don’t have to go through the hassle to find the most scrumptious, yummy and appetizing laksam in Tmn Tun, KL (TTDI). I know there is one stall somewhere around IBM plaza that sells the best laksam, nasi dagang and nasi kerabu (my favorite!) in town and some Sunday mornings (or even sometimes on our way to work) we would go there, traveling probably 20-25km from home, just to fill up our tummies with laksam and nasi kerabu. Oh yes, we definitely ever-willing to travel the distant just to go where the ‘good-food’ is…. Just like when we took the trouble to drive all the way to Hartamas to eat ‘Singapore kacang pool’ (you should try this!), or drove all the way to Jalan Pahang (near Tawakkal) to get the best capati and lamb-kima… get what I mean? We are known as the 'Food King & Queen"!
Anyway, back to the laksam story… I was a proud person this morning. I came to my office ‘nose-high’ - smiling all the way! (so excited that I forgot to bring my access card to the parking bay and left my office-shoes in the other car!) hehehe…. Actually, laksam is Nik’s favorite and whenever he eats laksam, he’ll make some comments, … the sauce is too thin, not enough fish, not enough salt, not tasty enough, not enough sauce…and the list goes on. The laksam in Tmn Tun is the closest that it can get to his level of ‘satisfaction’, so when he said the laksam I made was good, I was so happy… it was my first attempt after all (or was he saying it just to make me feel good!?... hmmmpphhh)
Well, I guess after this we can save some money as we don’t have to go to Tmn Tun (and pay RM3.20 for toll on top of petrol cost) just to get a pack of laksam worth RM2.50! So, my friends, you know what the dish will be if you come to my house for Hari Raya…. Hehehe…

For what ever reason, I thank GOD for giving me the light to surf your blog today.. It brings me down the memory lane again.. my grandma's laksam is the best (as far as I am concern that is..). How I wish I could fly back now and taste her cooking again!
And I believe your hubby was very sincere when he said your laksam was good.. have a lovely week ahead.
Thanks for visiting. I visited yours some weeks ago --> got the 'so-called-light' from Lanie's page... hehehe.
Anyway, yup, we just love kelantan food, don't we?
