Last weekend was a very depressing weekend for the whole family.
My husband likes animals & he loves birds especially. He kept on telling me that he wanted to own birds for so long but I never encouraged him, due to my lack of interest in birds. I felt that birds are totally different from cats. You can hold & hug cats but how can you do that to birds?
Anyway, early this year, I thought, well maybe I should give it a try – after seeing how adorable my uncle’s birds can be during our visit to Singapore. So we had an exotic bird – an African Grey. Nik took care of him since he was 3 weeks old…. And the bird was so small, weak, featherless & all. I named him Elvy. I seldom touched him because he looked so fragile but I began to love him as he grew. As days went by, he grew at an alarming rate and in 3 months, he turned out to be a very beautiful and smart bird. I became attached to him in less than a month.
Last Saturday, unexpectedly he flew out from his cage & our house. Probably he wanted to fly to Nik who was calling his name from the house door but suddenly I saw him flew past above our heads and higher and higher….. Nik went running after him & still he couldn’t find Elvy. We went out to look for him around our housing area but Elvy was nowhere in sight. Nik was so depressed….. I was so devastated & cried the whole morning (even until last night). Nasreen cried too & so was my mom! She took care of Elvy when we were at work. In short, everyone was affected by the loss. Elvy was just a baby & that was the first time he flew. We were stunned to see that he went up so high.
I hope Elvy is fine…. & hopefully he finds a new home by now…..
